Digital Collage - Shuffles & Picsart
Art, for me, is more than a creative expression! It is a means of survival, resistance, and storytelling. My digital multimedia collage Sundown Town represents the culmination of my experiences navigating spaces that felt hostile, silencing, and even dehumanizing. This piece is a deeply personal reflection on invisibility, systemic oppression, and the resilience required to exist in environments designed to erase us.
The title, Sundown Town, carries a heavy historical weight. It recalls the American towns that excluded Black people, often violently enforcing a racial hierarchy that left those of us who are Black or Black-presenting with an implicit threat: "You do not belong here." While such towns represent a specific historical reality, their spirit persists today, morphing into systemic barriers that continue to silence and erase marginalized voices. In this artwork, I confront that legacy, but I also reclaim my power by rendering visible what others would prefer to remain unseen.
